7 Things I Loved about the Low Carb {KETO} Cruise | Plus a list of Books and Sources

The Low Carb (Keto) Cruise has sailed 11 times! It is the brain child of the great Jimmy Moore who of course has an amazing podcast, blog, website, and many great books! You can find all his information along with information on future Low Carb Cruises here : http://www.livinlavidalowcarb.com

***at the bottom of this post there is a list of books and links to resources that will be helpful in your search for more KETO knowledge.

 1.) Roatan, Honduras

**Each Low Carb Cruise is different so these will change but we LOVED our Ports of Call. We didn’t get to do things at all of them but of the 2 we went to we were very pleased.

If you know Ken and I you know we are on the fly type of people. We pretty much just wing it now matter what we do, which is exactly what we did on this trip. Our good friend Nurse Cindy  invited us the Daniel Johnson’s Monkey and Sloth Hangout  which turned out to be a HUGE WIN!!! For $55 we got to hug a sloth, play with monkeys and parrots and go out to the reef and snorkel. Roatan sits on the lower section of the world’s second largest barrier reef system, called the Mesoamerican Reef. It was my first time every snorkeling and what a way to break myself in. It was sooooo gorgeous and all the fish were so colorful. They set us up with all the gear and showed us around the drop off. After that they took us to the shallows where we saw tons of sea life.

2.) Low Carb Beach Break

This was planned by Ms. Debbie Hubbs,  and although the actual beach left something to be desired, the company was amazing. Lots of us huddled up and gorged ourselves on some amazing ceviche and guacamole. YUUUMMMMMMM!!!! We all just hung out and talked about keto, laughed, and made some amazing memories.  I am so glad we went.

3.) The People

We met so many amazing people on this cruise and established what I hope to be long lasting friendships. I can’t begin to name them all. They are all so loving and open minded. The amount of information I learned from all these wonderful people was more than worth the price of the cruise.

4.) The Ship : Liberty of the Seas

** again the ship may change with each cruise.

This ship is beautiful and has lots of room for you to relax. There is an adult pool and bar available if you are with you hubby or boyfriend and want a quieter place to cool off. If you are traveling with children there are so many things for them to do. There is a kid swimming area, slides, a flo-rider, an arcade, and a daycare!!! The food options aren’t catered to people who are eating low carb. That’s not how it is. We are just part of a group that just happens to be on a cruise-ship. So there is a pizza place, a cupcake place, and ice cream everywhere. That’s just part of it. However it isn’t that hard to stay keto if you want to. There is plenty of meat and raw veggies and lots of butter. Make sure you bring your own heavy cream if you can because you won’t find it on here. You can also bring your own MCT power to add to your coffee to keep having your keto coffee. Be prepared to have you own keto accessories. The mexican restaurant Sabo is not included but the guacamole there is HEAVEN. Totally worth it for a change of pace. Plus you can have as much bacon and eggs as you want. If you get the omelet make sure they don’t add flour to it and tell them to cook it in butter. They are overall very accommodating to your needs. They are there to make your experience the best they can.

5.) The Speakers

There were so many amazing speakers on this cruise. I will leave a list of all of them below. I personally loved Maria Emmerich,   Dave Feldman , Deanna and Mike MutzelJohn Limansky M.D. and of course my all time favorite Ken D. Berry M.D.   The talks go all day the first few days when the boat is at sea leaving you plenty of free time while at port. I would bring a notebook to take notes and any books you want autographed. Bring a charging bank for your phone so you can make sure you don’t go dead or have to leave the room to go charge your phone.  This is the one I have and I love it!  You are going to want to take pictures with your people and maybe some of the slides too.

Find the list of speakers here : http://lowcarbcruiseinfo.com/speaker/

6.) The Energy

The coolest thing about this cruise is being around like minded people and feeling the power the comes from a group of people on a mission to change their health. Not one person I met didn’t want to be on the ketogenic diet. In face they wanted to spread the word about what keto had done for them! They all had a story about how keto had changed their life for the better. Some losing over 100 lbs, some getting their autoimmune diseases to be in remission, some to get off blood pressure medications or even curing their diabetes!!!! What an amazing atmosphere to be a part of. It was like being at a family reunion except with people that you actually like and who don’t give you shit for not eating Aunt Jojo’s apple pie.

7.) Leaving with a Purpose

After meeting all these health champions how can you go home and not be completely fired up about doing this? How can you not want to scream to the hills “Listen to what I have learned!! “. It’s impossible to go home without feeling a sense of purpose. You are going to want to find a way to gently get your family members to eat this way. You’re going to have a list of books to read (I’ll share some of them below) and share and even more research to justify you going to your doctor and asking him or her to do some research into how the ketogenic diet works. You might even start a blog, an Instagram, or a facebook group. Whatever it is you decide to do, it will help this world become healthier.

I would like Dr Berry to do an interview with Dr Craig Backs,
Springfield Illinois, only paleo-Keto physician in our area. See some history by going to,
    A message from the doctor…

View the 4 minute video at http://www.crossfitinstinct.com/doctors-get-fit or http://www.craigbacksmd.com In the past year I have learned to practice what I preach in order to be a better mentor to my patients.
I think they would find each other inspiring. Since they are both teaching the same principles.

Thank you for a wonderful post and references. Hopefully you had the opportunity to meet Kristie Sullivan. She was such an inspiration to me.

heavy whipping cream happened! The 2nd night our dinner waitress sent us all home with a container of HWC so we always could have it on hand. And we told her we really needed it in the coffee shop and an hour later they had a big old supply of it!! We enjoyed iced lattes with HWC and SF vanilla all week.

Great blog, Neisha! Putting flour in an omelette is news to me! Is that a normal practice at restaurants, cruises, etc.? Something else that is sneaky to watch out for now!

Just saw this from our cruise, Neisha! What a great post about how much fun we had. I’m so glad you and Ken went with my sister, AskNurseCindy, and me to visit the sloths and go snorkeling. That was a great day. Love you guys so much.
